Röhm is one of the leading manufacturers in the methacrylate business. At the beginning of 2024, the company, headquartered in the science city of Darmstadt, successfully transitioned to S/4HANA® Private Cloud. The Röhm Group completes the transformation of its ERP system landscape, reaching another important milestone in its modernization journey.
For Dr. Peter Merz, Head of Technical Controlling in Operations Management Methacrylates, the launch of the “PRIMA” platform is taking place simultaneously. The acronym stands for “Project Investment Management Application” and is the internal name of the application at Röhm.
The earlier three-system landscape, which had to be maintained through multiple interfaces, was replaced by “PRIMA” as part of the S/4HANA® transformation. Dietmar Sickmann, Process/IT Manager Maintenance Engineering at Röhm, particularly highlights the reduction in license and maintenance costs achieved with “PRIMA”. Data redundancies and interfaces are now eliminated.
At the core of the application is the proven Project System (PS) and Investment Management (IM) in S/4HANA®, enhanced with the add-on components “top xRM” and “Noveco ePM” and developed by Aksoy Consulting into an integrated SAP®-UI5 application platform. In implementing Investment Management in S/4HANA®, Aksoy’s solution architects focused on ensuring a seamless transition from mid-term planning to the planning and execution of individual measures.
Contrary to the philosophy of a straightforward project process, Röhm relies on a multi-stage and gradual structuring and planning of its CapEx projects.
In the “PRIMA – Project Builder,” each phase can be planned separately and submitted for approval.
Projects are identified in SAP® by a unique project number, starting from the project idea to the financial project closure.
The multi-step procedure specified in the investment guidelines of the Röhm Group also allows for phase skipping, depending on the project. For example, after the successful completion of a project’s conceptual engineering phase, execution can be requested without prior basic engineering if needed.
This way, “PRIMA” provides project managers at Röhm with maximum flexibility in multi-stage project management.
